Speech Reflection

In overall, I found this speech harder than last "I Am" speech. In "I Am" speech, I knew the material perfectly, because the topic was about who I am. I could easily memorise everything and sounds like professional. However this presidential speech was harder because I do not fully know what I am planning to say. If I was actually running for president than I would have every concept in my head since start, but in this case it was hard to remember all the points that I made from my imagination. Especially, I am not citizen of United States so that made me much challenging to come up with points that I can convince people. I do not share common knowledge with Americans, so I think I spent more time on planning and researching some issues I can mention than actually writing the script. However I love taking challenges so it was enjoyable to me.

I do not think I did well on delivery of speech. First of all, English is not my first language so I do not have perfect pronunciation and fluency as other native speakers. Therefore I think I messed up some words and sentences. I repeated one sentence twice because I did not pronounce one word perfectly, I was trying to put more attention on having clear delivery than body language. The clear delivery is always huge challenge for me and I put lots of focus on it too. I will try my best to make it better.

Also I was reading the script too much and that does not look professional. In this setting of speech, I must look professional and confident. However I was reading too much, so that makes me to look not professional and not confident about my words. I did not memorised the speech well also the content of speech is not a something I am export of. Therefore I found it much harder to memorise my script on presidential speech. I was having wield body language too. I was reading script too much so one of my hand was on phone and I was kept surrounding my phone by my hands often to see the letters clearly. I think I needed to stop doing that. If I remembered the script better, this would not have happened.

I define myself as good public speaker in Korean. Obviously I have better language skill with Korean than English so I can be better public speaker in Korean much easily. I think this class helps me developing my public speaking skill in English. I never learned public speaking skills this professionally, learning all the debate devices to persuade people and keep having practices of public speaking and debates. I feel great to keep getting this professionalized help on my public speaking skill. I think I am developing my public speaking skills pretty well. I might need to participate more during class to get more help.
